Support Videos

1. Getting Started

This video provides an overview of how solar power works, how the system is installed, and how it can benefit both you and the environment.

2. Checking the system

This video will walk you through the steps to check that the solar panels are generating electricity and that the system is connected to the grid. By doing this simple check regularly, you can ensure that the solar system is working efficiently and that you’re getting the most out of your clean energy source.

Top Tips to maximise your savings

Follow these top tips to maximise your savings and avoid power bills shocks by using FREE solar power.

Use energy hungry appliances during the day

Use your washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, irons and vaccums when the sun is shining.

Pre-set air conditioning for the afternoon

Ceiling fans and the thermostat will efficiently keep things cool in summer and warm in winter once the sun goes down.

Be energy smart

FAQs

Solar power is a renewable energy source that harnesses the energy from the sun’s rays and converts it into electricity.

Solar panels consist of photovoltaic cells, typically made from silicon, that react to sunlight by generating a flow of electrons. These electrons create an electric current, which is then converted from DC to alternating current (AC) by an inverter. AC electricity is what homes and businesses use to power appliances, lighting, and other electrical devices.

Solar power offers numerous benefits, including:

    • Reduced electricity bills: Generating your own electricity can significantly lower your electricity bills.
    • Potential for selling excess power: On the days that you’re generating your own solar power, you can sell any extra energy that you aren’t using back to the grid, check with your retailer how much they are offering for this, but its usually better to use as much of it yourself as you can.
    • Renewable energy source: The sun is an abundant and renewable resource, unlike fossil fuels. Any day with sun is a day you generate your own, free & clean electricity.
    • Lower carbon footprint: When all is said and done, and you have a Solar System installed on your roof, the system won’t produce any CO2 or greenhouse gasses to generate your electricity, so you’re joining the fight to combat climate change.
Often you will hear that Solar systems are “dirty” because of all the emissions generated to manufacture the panels and systems, but did you know that in Australia, our power grid is so infested with fossil fuel emissions that.

There are a few parts to your solar system

    • Your Solar Panels, which are on your roof, should last 25 years, typically they will have a product warranty for 12-15 years for any faults, and a performance warranty for 25 years which will cover any underperforming panels which are degrading faster than allowed.

Your system will still work with cloud or rain, kind of, without the full power of the sun shining on the panels, the systems performance will be seriously reduced.

Your system won’t operate in the night time, and often the inverter (the big box with lights on your wall) will shut itself down, come sunrise, the power on the panels will wake the system up automatically to begin producing power again.

Unless you have specifically installed a back-up power system with batteries, your system will not operate in a blackout. This is to protect any electricians that are working on the lines outside your house.

This will depend on the rules that were in place with the distributor when the system was installed, if you are not sure you should check with your electricity retailer to make sure you are on a solar tariff.
