How we engineered a custom solution for Mercure Gold Coast Resort, by installing a solar system that produces 165MWh of Solar Power each year.
“Guest Journey” means more at the Mercure Gold Coast Resort. Beyond the wellness spa and lush location, guests have peace-of-mind, knowing their stay is supporting sustainability.
With our newly installed large-scale solar system, Mercure Resort is once again demonstrating why they are Sustainable Tourism Certified by Ecotourism Australia and are recognised as a Best of Queensland Experience. Blending comfort with conscious travel, guests know their stay supports responsible practices.
Installing solar is one more way Mecure Resort helps their guests travel with an eco-friendly footprint. Our Meridien Energy custom designed solar system, is triple the size of their original system and is now fit for purpose.

What are the Clients Solar Power Goals & Hurdles?
Clients typically come to Meridien EnergyTM, with four questions:
-
- Will we reduce the cost of our energy bills, by using a solar powered battery system?
- Is investing in a larger solar powered system worth the up-front cost?
- How long does it take for solar to pay itself off?
- What is an Energy Management Plan?
The Process
After our initial chat with the Mercure Gold Coast Resort team, we had a greater understanding of what their goals were. We then visited the property and completed a site appraisal. Once assessed, we had a greater understanding of:
-
- Why their current set-up wasn’t working for them, and
- How we could help them reach their financial and environmental goals.
No matter the client, big or small, we ALWAYS follow the same process – develop an Energy Management Plan, customised to the clients unique requirements, then deliver!
What is an Energy Management Plan?
An Energy Management Plan takes into consideration, factors such as:
-
- Understanding the current energy usage, while estimating future energy usage.
- Avoiding power bill inflation, by developing an independent system that builds Energy Resilience, not commercial dependence.
- Reducing the carbon footprint to minimise the environmental impact.
- Ways to implement systems that monitor power efficiency and consumption.
- How to Power Energy Bills to ZERO.
Our Solution
When it came to developing the Mercure Gold Coast Resort’s Energy Management Plan, we took into consideration factors such as:
-
- The resort is located on 10 acres of land
- 292 rooms (and would there be expansions in the future)
- 1,460m2 total event space
- 595m2 ballroom/meeting space
- Two outdoor pools, a gym, spa and sauna
- On-site Bar and two dining options, ‘The Green’ and ‘The Cart’
- And more
Once their Energy Management Plan was developed, we designed a Solar Panel and Battery solution that best suited their needs, for now AND into the future.
Solar System Specification
-
- 200x Astronergy N7s 500W Bifacial Solar Panels
- That produce 165 MWh of power each year
The Results
Maximising the resort’s roof space, means the Mercure Gold Coast Resort now benefits from reduced energy bills. Now using a solar powered battery system, fit for purpose. Producing 165 MWh of power each year, they are saving thousands of dollars on power bills. From investing in a custom Solar solution, Mercure Resort is now producing ZERO* Cost Energy AND developing Income Producing Energy. Meaning free energy, free power, and it will pay for itself in little time.
About Meridien Energy
We aren’t just another solar energy retailer. With a background in investment, we focus on the numbers and make sure that we provide our energy clients with the best possible return. We develop solar solutions for residential and commercial properties. No job is too big or too small for us.
We see people underestimate their power usage often, and it leaves them with more bills than bucks. By implementing our customisable Energy Management Plan, we’ve helped hundreds of Queenslanders better evaluate their power usage. Saving money on power bills and protecting them from future price increases.
Solar is a valuable investment and it aligns with both Queensland Government and Australian Government Environmental Goals. While an immediate benefit of investing in solar power is energy resilience, the long-term impact is reducing emissions. We have now proudly installed over 1,260kWh of Solar Batteries. That’s saved the planet from 2,433,401kg of coal!
How good!
